Reconstitution Solution is sterile water containing 0.9% (w/v) benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The benzyl alcohol suppresses microbial growth — that's what distinguishes it from single-use sterile water and lets a reconstituted vial be drawn from multiple times across a defined window without the diluent becoming a contamination source.
Lyophilized research compounds ship as a dry powder for stability and must be dissolved in a compatible diluent before in-vitro use. Reconstitution Solution is widely used because the preservative permits a multi-draw working window, it's miscible with common aqueous buffers, and it adds no ionic strength or pH shift of its own. Plain sterile water and 0.9% saline are alternatives; the right choice depends on the solubility profile noted in the compound's documentation.
Store unopened at controlled room temperature, away from light. Once a research material is reconstituted, follow the temperature and use-by window on that compound's Certificate of Analysis — the diluent doesn't extend a compound's stability. Inspect for clarity before use; discard if cloudy.
